Skiers on the flanks of Monte Rosa looking towards the Matterhorn
Further up the slopes of Monte Rosa...below the Liskamm (4527m). The Matterhorn pokes its head through clouds behind. Ski-mountaineering (also called "alpine touring", or "randonnee skiing") is where peaks are climbed on skis using adhesive skins to go uphill, before enjoying a long run in nearly immaculate snow.
