Hotels in Zermatt

Now Including Chalets and Apartments.

snowflake.gif (928 bytes) Switzerland's hotels have a justifiably famous reputation worldwide. Zermatt has welcomed visitors for over 150 years and even today most of the hotels are run by the owner. Luxury and first class hotels offer style and tradition, but standards of efficiency and service throughout are second to none. Even the mid-range and simple accommodations offer service and ambience which are among the best of their kind.

When to Go ?

Before looking at the Hotel and Apartment List, it is worth taking note of Zermatt's different holiday seasons. The pricing structure of accommodation varies according to the following seasons:

bulletHigh Season - Christmas to New Year, Mid-February to Easter.

European holidays fall within these periods and Zermatt is a thriving village. Even though the resort is busy, thankfully without cars it never feels overcrowded. Accommodation is at a premium. The pistes/trails/lifts are busier, although it is still possible to avoid queues. Snow cover is generally superb. Nightlife is excellent.
To avoid disappointment, please book as far as possible in advance - preferably months ahead for high season.
bulletMid Season - January to Mid-February, Mid-June to mid-September.
Mountain lifts are very often 'walk' or 'ski-on'. In the winter period snow conditions are normally excellent. In the summer period the village streets are bustling with walkers, climbers and sightseers. It is highly recommended to book ahead for this season.
bulletLow Season - Mid-September to Mid-December, Mid-April to Mid-June.
Between summer and winter seasons accommodation can be had at a bargain. Village life is subdued. Snow is often still very good - especially on the upper runs. All ski areas are open from late November until the start of May, and the largest glacier ski area in Europe is open all year. November is the quietest month and many businesses are closed for annual holidays.

How long to stay ?

bulletIn the Winter Season - Regular guests to Zermatt allow themselves one or two weeks to soak up the famous Zermatt ambience. It is hardly possible to do the vast ski areas justice in a visit of only a few days. In high season, it should be noted that many Hotels give priority to reservations of at least one week's duration.
bulletIn the Summer Season - Summer visitors planning to wander amongst the vast mountain ranges can happily occupy themselves for a week or even more. People wanting a quick look at the mountains should allow at least a few days in Zermatt, in order to greatly increase the probability of clear viewing conditions.
